Research Theme: Aged Care Services

This theme includes services and support systems, alternative and innovative models of service delivery, quality of care issues, health workforce patterns and models. Examples of research in this area include:

Horner, B., Lewin, G. Jefford, N. and Thomas, J. Managing Change in the Silver Chain-Margaret River Vines redevelopment project: an Action Research Project. (2005-06)

Outcome:
A research team was established to facilitate self-directed monitoring of the impact of the development and associated changes on the staff and residents within the aged care community. Data has informed the activities and strategies that are being implemented during the commissioning process.

Horner, B., Oates, K. and Egan, J. Developing evidence-based practice in residential aged care, Howard Solomon Aged Care Facility. (2005-06)

Outcome:
Review and redevelopment of staff roles and responsibilities across the aged care facility to enhance resident-focussed care. Staff in care centres have changed their work practices and adopted a more flexible approach to meet the needs of residents.

Horner, B., Rees, J. and Hodi, N. Building a workforce community for the future, SwanCare Group. (2006-7)

Outcome:
This project is developing a workforce community that will include an employment framework that is aligned to the model of care. It includes new roles and responsibilities, career pathways and opportunities, education and development. SwanCare aims to become an 'employer of choice'.

Boldy, D., Grenade, L. and Rae, J. Residents' Satisfaction with Multi-purpose Services. Greater Western Area Health Service, Sydney, NSW. (2005-06)

Outcome:
Residents were surveyed using the approach/instruments developed by the Centre and the results benchmarked. Quality improvement activities were subsequently implemented and the residents re-surveyed to assess changes in satisfaction.
