The Centre was established with financial support from the Freemasons of Western Australia in 2000 as the Freemasons Centre for Research in Aged Care Services (CRACS). It changed its name to the Centre for Research on Ageing in 2006 to better reflect the breadth and diversity of its work. Since 2000, it has built a substantial research network and reputation across the University, with other national and international research centres, as well as individual researchers.

Mission
The Centre is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of older persons through a multidisciplinary research approach. It is a unique, multi-disciplinary research Centre strategically positioned within the Division of Health Sciences but with relevance to other Divisions across the University.
